Maybeury is the eastern-most community in McDowell County located on US 52 before crossing into Mercer County.
In 1890, it was the largest town in McDowell County with a population of 875. This was due to the coal mining start-ups in the town. Maybeury was the 5th largest town/city south of the State Capital, Charleston, and listed as the 31st largest town/city in the entire state
According to an article in the Bluefield Telegraph the building suffered fire damage and has been temporarily closed since. The text from that article is below:

MAYBEURY— The cause of a fire that damaged the Maybeury Post Office is still under investigation by the West Virginia State Fire Marshall’s office.
“We were paged to a structure fire about 11 p.m. (Friday),” Northfork Fire Chief Eric Graham said. “We were able to get it under control pretty quickly.”
According to Graham, there were no injuries caused by the fire.
“On scene we had fire and smoke showing,” Graham said.
The fire occurred Friday evening. Keystone Fire Department, Bramwell Fire Department, and Northfork Volunteer Fire Department responded to the blaze.
“We’re still waiting for the fire Marshall’s office to determine the cause of the fire,” Graham said.
Wideners Rescue Squad and the McDowell County Rescue Squad also responded to the call.
