The Liberty Theater opened in 1946 at 816 Main Street in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina.

The theater served as a single screen house from its opening until 1976 when the theater was bisected, creating two equal sized houses on either side, with the lower balcony being re-configured as the projection booth.
The Liberty Theater is the last remaining theater in Wilkes County, having outlasted three drive-ins, the Allen Theatre (single screen, burned in 1961), College Park Cinema (two screens, in disrepair), West Park Cinema (two screens, demolished) and the Wilkes Mall Cinema (two screens, converted for use by Lowe’s Companies). It shows current popular releases, focusing on family films
