This Kmart was located at 1802 Decatur Pike in Athens, Tennessee. This was the second location for this Kmart in Athens. The original Kmart was located across the pike in a shopping center co-anchored by Kroger (now United Grocery Outlet) The first Kmart is now a Big Lots.
Kmart opened at this location on October 18, 1990. On April 21, 2016 it was announced that the Athens store (along with several other east Tennessee locations) would close. The final day in business was Sunday, July 31, 2016.
This Kmart in Paintsville, Kentucky first opened for business on November 9, 1992. The store relocated from a smaller bar roof Kmart located on the other side of town.
On April 22, 2016 it was announced that this Kmart location along with 4 others across the state would close in July. With the closing of this location and the store in Maysville in northeastern Kentucky, The eastern part of the state from Interstate 75 east was left with only 4 Kmart stores, and one of those, Pikeville, is scheduled to close in December. The others remaining are in Corbin, London and Grayson. At its height, Kmart had at least 15 stores east of the I 75 boundary.
The store closed for good at the end of the business day on Sunday, July 31, 2016.
The Kmart in Maysville, Kentucky was located at 1580 US 68 South in the Gateway Shopping Center. The store first opened its doors for business on October 29, 1981.
On April 21, 2016 it was announced that this store, along with 67 other locations (including four others in Kentucky) would close by the end of July.
The store closed at the end of the business day on Sunday July 31st.
The Kmart in Wise Virginia was located at 129 Ridgeview Road in the Ridgeview shopping center.
The store first opened its doors on June 8, 1989.
On January 31, 2014 it was announced that the Kmart in Wise would close its doors in April. The original news story announcing this closure can be found by clicking HERE. The store closed for good on April 20, 2014.
By August 2014 renovations had began and preparations were being made for the left side of the building to be occupied by Ollie’s Bargain Outlet.
The right side of the Kmart building has recently become occupied by Harbor Freight.
