The building has been sitting vacant since 1999 when the hospital merged with a neighboring hospital in nearby Linville.

Kmart Store Closings Google Maps Mashup

I have spent the evening working on geo-tagging my flickr photos and creating a google map of the Kmart stores that I have visited that have closed since 2016. The grand total is 31. As this Kmart and Sears thing plays out I will continually add to this map and documment the future of Kmart. The map can be seen by clicking  HERE

So Long My Friend. Saying Goodbye to Oak Hollow Mall

Oak Hollow Mall -- High Point, NC If there are two things in this life I am the first would be a nerd and the second would be sentimental. When I lived in Greensboro, this mall was a pretty happening place. It wasnt as busy and overwhelmingly big as Four Seasons in Greensboro or Haynes Mall in Winston. It was just right. On Januiary 6, 2017, High Point University, the owner of the mall announced that the mall would finally close its doors on March 10th. The press release blamed Sears decision to close their call center located at the mall and the Universities inability to rebuild the malls tennant base.

Kmart — Mayberry Mall (1976-2016)

First a little history on Mayberry Mall. The mall opened in 1968 anchored by Winn Dixie and WT Grant’s Grant City. The Kmart opened in 1976 after WT Grant’s Grant City, which was the original anchor in this spot closed in 1975. in 1970 Belk joined the mall, and in 1987 JC Penney moved into the mall.

Kmart -- Mount Airy, North Carolina This store closes for good today, December 11, 2016. Once it is closed the last of the mall Kmart stores in North Carolina will be gone. Little Switzerland is located in Mitchell and McDowell Counties in Western North Carolina just off the Blue Ridge Parkway. The elevation is around 3,200 feet.

The immediate area was settled in 1909 and Little Switzerland was founded in 1909. In 1927 the first Post Office was built.

Fuji Instax Wide Meets The Blue Ridge Parkway

The Fine Arts Theater — Asheville, North Carolina

Fine Arts Theater -- Asheville NC
The Fine Arts Theater is located at 36 Biltmore Avenue in downtown Asheville, North Carolina. It originally opened as the Strand Theatre on October 24, 1946 and had a seating capacity of 800 in orchestra and balcony. It was renamed Fine Arts Theatre on June 8, 1962.

Today the theater is the home of the Asheville Film Festival held in November of each year. The Fine Arts runs first run art and independent films.
